Commissioned by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens´ Artistic Director, Ivan Cavallari, Peter Quanz's La Dame Aux Camélias will premiere in October in the company´s home city of Montreal.. Inspired by Alexandre Dumas fils´ novel of the same name, Quanz´s choreography is set to a cornucopia of musical compositions by Carl Maria con Weber, Lili Boulanger, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Clara Shumann.. La Dame aux camélias has often fascinated choreographers and the best known version remains that of John Neumeier. First performed in Stuttgart in 1978, this ballet entered the repertoire of the Paris Opera Ballet in 2006 in a production highly faithful to the novel and resolutely cinematic.
