We determined levels of soluble interleukin 2 receptors (IL-2R) in patients with sarcoidosis and further examined their origin. Thirty-nine patients with sarcoidosis and IS healthy control subjects were studied. Soluble IL-2R levels in serum were significantly higher (p<0.01) in sarcoidosis than in control subjects.. The aim of this review is to investigate both its qualities as a biomarker and a potential biological role in sarcoidosis, to determine its exact role in the disease and thus its usefulness as a therapeutic target. Sarcoidosis is a systemic inflammatory disease characterized by granulomatous inflammation. The soluble interleukin-2 receptor (sIL-2R) is used as a biomarker for disease severity.
